Create your first project
A project in TakeCript is a workspace that holds your video clips, script, and the timeline that ties them together. Each project targets a specific video editor and produces a ready-to-open project file when you export.
Getting started
Open the new project wizard
From your dashboard, click the New Project button. If your plan has no remaining monthly media processing minutes, you will be prompted to upgrade before continuing.
Enter a project name
Give your project a descriptive name so you can find it later. For example, "Q2 Product Launch" or "Episode 12 - Interview".
Select your target editor
Choose the video editor you will use to finish the edit:
- Kdenlive -- exports an MLT XML project file.
- DaVinci Resolve -- exports an OTIO (OpenTimelineIO) project file compatible with Resolve 18.5 and later.
Choose a cut preset
The cut preset controls how aggressively TakeCript removes silence from your footage:
| Preset | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Smooth | Keeps natural pauses. Best for interviews. |
| Normal | Balanced silence removal for most content. |
| Aggressive | Tight cuts with minimal gaps. Great for tutorials. |
You can change the target editor and cut preset later from the project settings page before processing.
If you are unsure which preset to pick, start with Normal. You can always reprocess the project with a different preset.
What happens next
After you confirm, TakeCript creates the project and takes you to the upload step where you add your video clips.
Next step: Upload clips
