Export your project
The final step is exporting your project into a file your video editor can open. TakeCript packages everything into a single ZIP download so you can get editing right away.
Final outputs in Review
In the Review screen, TakeCript also offers two final outputs in addition to the ZIP export:
- Render MP4: creates a final video file (
H.264/AAC). - Export audio WAV: creates a final timeline audio file (
.wav).
Both actions run in the background and use the same monthly render-minute quota.
- Free: 10 shared render minutes/month
- Creator: 45 shared render minutes/month
Minutes are charged only on successful completion, based on the generated output duration (rounded up to whole minutes).
Download links for MP4/WAV are temporary (about 1 hour). Generated files are cleaned up automatically after about 2 hours.
What export does
When you click Export, TakeCript:
- Generates a project file based on your reviewed matches and silence removals.
- Bundles your media clips alongside the project file.
- Packages everything into a ZIP archive and provides a download link.
The export runs in the background. You will see a progress indicator and a notification when it is ready.
Export formats
Kdenlive (MLT XML)
If your target editor is Kdenlive, TakeCript generates an .mlt project file.
Download and extract the ZIP file.
Open Kdenlive and go to File > Open (or double-click the .mlt file).
Your timeline loads with all clips placed, silences removed, and B-roll markers in position. Start editing.
DaVinci Resolve (OTIO)
If your target editor is DaVinci Resolve, TakeCript generates an .otio file in OpenTimelineIO format.
Download and extract the ZIP file.
Open DaVinci Resolve (18.5 or later) and go to File > Import > Timeline then select the .otio file.
When prompted, point Resolve to the media folder included in the ZIP so it can relink the clips.
OTIO support requires DaVinci Resolve 18.5 or later. Earlier versions do not support the OpenTimelineIO format.
What is in the ZIP
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Project file | .mlt (Kdenlive) or .otio (DaVinci Resolve) |
| Media folder | All your uploaded clips, ready to be referenced by the project file. |
| README | A short guide with import instructions specific to your editor. |
Your original clips are bundled in the ZIP with the correct relative paths. As long as you keep the folder structure intact after extracting, your editor will find every file automatically.
After exporting
The exported project is a starting point, not a finished video. Open it in your editor to:
- Trim individual cuts for pacing.
- Drop in B-roll over the marked sections.
- Adjust music volume and mix audio.
- Add titles, transitions, and color grading.
You have gone from raw footage and a script to a structured, rough-cut timeline in minutes. Happy editing!
