DaVinci Resolve import issues
If you are having trouble opening your TakeCript export in DaVinci Resolve, follow these steps.
Requirements
- DaVinci Resolve 18.5 or later (free or Studio). Earlier versions do not support the OpenTimelineIO (OTIO) format.
- The exported ZIP must be extracted first.
How to import
Extract the full ZIP to a single folder.
Open DaVinci Resolve and go to File > Import > Timeline.
Select the .otio file from the extracted folder.
When Resolve asks for media locations, point it to the media folder included in the ZIP.
Common problems
"Unsupported format" or file not recognized
- Make sure you are using Resolve 18.5 or later. Check your version in DaVinci Resolve > About DaVinci Resolve.
- Make sure you are importing via File > Import > Timeline, not File > Open.
- Verify you are selecting the
.otiofile, not another file from the ZIP.
Media offline / clips not found
Resolve needs to know where the media files are located.
- When prompted during import, browse to the media folder inside the extracted ZIP.
- If you missed the prompt, right-click on offline clips in the Media Pool and select Relink Selected Clips, then point to the media folder.
Timeline is empty or has wrong structure
- Confirm the
.otiofile and the media folder are from the same export. Re-download and re-extract the ZIP if needed. - Make sure you did not move or rename files inside the extracted folder.
DaVinci Resolve's OTIO support is relatively new. If you encounter unexpected behavior, check if a Resolve update is available, as Blackmagic continues to improve OTIO compatibility.
